lookPositive is a social enterprise specialising in improving the way
young people think about the way they look. We teach students age
9-14 how to take control of their emotional well being by empowering
them with the knowledge of how to combat low body image and fight
negativity in their lives.
To achieve this, lookPositive conducts interactive workshops and presentations in schools which challenges student's perceptions of their appearance and teaches them how to confront the pressures in the media and other areas of their life which causes body negativity.
We use exciting activities and discussions to really engage students in thinking about the attitudes they have to themselves and the people around them, so that students leave the workshops able to be more positive, which helps them to achieve in all areas of their lives. We believe that by learning these skills, young people can change their life by learning
to love themselves.
We offer two school services:
These are 1 hour sessions, bookable in periods of 1 day or for a half day, seeing approximately 30 students per hour slot.
The workshop is interactive, with activities which help young people challenge negativity from the media and other sources in their lives which leads to body negativity; showing them how the can learn to be more positive about their own bodies.
The small group sizes allows students to actively engage with the content in a more personal way, with discussions among the whole class which challenge the students to think about how body image issues affect them.
These large scale presentations are aimed at an entire year group, lasting for a whole day, or half.
Due to the longer length, this has a more in depth focus on all body image issues, including helping students to understand
- What body image is
- Where negativity about the way you look comes from
- The role of the media
- Eating disorders
- How to improve the way they feel about themselves
These presentations will also be interactive, giving students the change to get involved in changing their mindset about their bodies.
