WEST AFRICAN DRUM, DANCE, SONG STORY. Social inclusion and access for all are keystones of our work. Whether students are mainstream, special needs or specialist, we work within the national curriculum to bring interactive, culturally diverse workshops to the classroom. Development education issues are integral to our approach. Students will use not only their creative energy learning to play drums, dance, sing, act out a story, but will learn about why clean water is a must for healthy living and how malaria affects young and old. They will learn some African greetings and songs and maybe try out their French with us. They will learn about aspects of town and village life as we show photos, dvds and dress to stimulate questions. We have sensory based workshops for special needs students, with a range of traditional instruments to see, touch, hear, move to. We have composition workshops based around our traditional beats. We can do whole school demonstrations, just for the sheer wow factor of the sound of the drums. This is African drumming at its very best, as sizzling beats combine with the essential components of sassy dance steps, song and story to bring alive village life and traditional ceremonies from Guinea Conakry and beyond. Guinea is a land of rivers and mountains, tropical rainforests and magical creatures………….and we bring you a cameo of everyday life, as we meet targets across the national school and adult education curricula, in creative ways that inspire and stimulate students of all ages. Quite simply we aim to bring out excellence in personal and social achievement through the best of culturally diverse drum and dance teaching. "It is a rare privilege for our school to have the opportunity to work with artistes of such talents and of course such ambassadors of West Africa" Ronald Stones OBE, School Director, British school of Singapore
