Olympic, African, Indian, Chinese, Samba and Recycled Sounds Music Workshops
MED Music provides a first class service to schools in Hampshire, Surrey, London, Sussex and Kent. We deliver a rich cultural experience where children from an early age can enjoy, play and perform music. We are committed to music education and assist schools in delivering the National Curriculum and elements of the Government’s national plan for music launched in November 2011. It is often said that in just one day we cover so many areas of the whole school curriculum.
In our music workshops the children are the musicians, ‘learning through doing’ on the most fabulous collection of authentic instruments. They receive a unique experience, acquiring an understanding for different cultural traditions. In so doing the children gain a respect for their own culture and that of others, plus an interest and curiosity for cultural diversity.
It is now widely acknowledged that music can have a positive effect on so many aspects of a child’s education as well as being a source of great pleasure. So Head Teachers give your school a special gift. We offer a range of highly educational workshops.
African Workshops MED Music delivers an educational African Workshop where children enjoy, play and perform music on a range of authentic African instruments. This includes the usual African djembe drums plus African xylophones, djun djun, shekere, caxixi and gankoqui to name a few. The children accumulate knowledge through being actively involved, learning about the role music plays in African society, conventions of the style, the importance of the drum and the social and cultural significance of the different rhythms. They learn that rhythm is the ‘heart and soul’ of African music and the sessions culminate in a large ensemble of an African piece. We link with other areas of the National Curriculum and give insight into where Africa is, what it is like and the similarities and differences from where we live. Three one hour sessions are usually slotted into a day plus a presentation/assembly. We can cater for a maximum of 90 pupils in each session for the African Workshop.
