Circus workshops with Melanie and Angelo
Melanie and Angelo are proud that their workshops are accessible to all. They provide individual attention to each participant and take individual needs into consideration when providing them with suitable skills and involving them in the group. They have worked successfully with children and adults with challenging behaviour, a range of physical disabilities and learning difficulties. Previous customers include MENCAP, Downs Syndrome of Wirral, Underley Educational Services and HM Prison Altcourse.
Workshops can be arranged to coincide with a specific part of the curriculum, as an end of term treat, for a special celebration, as part of an Arts Festival, at a Fete or Fair, as a fun introduction to a Training Day or as a Team Building Exercise. Skills taught include, Juggling, Diabolo, Devil Sticks, Balancing, Spinning Plates, Hand-held and Hands-free Stilts, Hulahoops, Rolla Bolla, Tight-wire Walking, Pedal goes, Unicycling, Balloon Modelling and Face Painting. Single workshops are for up to 30 participants and last 1 hour, while a Circus Workshop Day can cater for anything from 30 to 150. A Circus Workshop Week can be arranged to culminate in a performance by the students of their achievements.
Theatrical and Media Make-up Workshops
Highly challenging to all participants as the techniques used are completely different to those used for every day make-up. They are much more complicated and elaborate and use materials that most people haven't used before.
This means that male and female participants all start at the same level. Additionally, they require the use of the imagination and artistic talent and require patience and co-operation. Participants work in pairs and at close proximity so they need to show respect and understanding for each other. Finally, all participants need to be self motivated and self disciplined in order to achieve the required effect in a limited time schedule.
Taking part in a theatrical & media make-up event can be highly enjoyable for everybody as they get themselves in and then out of a sticky mess! It is highly educational and participants must be attentive throughout. Initially, they must work with partners but ultimately with the entire team to achieve the final goal set.
Participants get to know the techniques used on TV and theatre to achieve very dramatic effects or the more simple ones like making people look older or younger and thinner or fatter!
The goals can be a Pantomime theme or an aeroplane crash (much loved by participants because of the gory effects, casualty galore!)
How long can a theatrical make-up workshops last?
Theatrical & Media Make-up workshops last from 2 – 3 hours to a 4 – 6 hour Day to a Full Week (the latter can be arranged to culminate in a demonstration by the students of their work).
A 2 hour Introductory Theatrical & Media Make-up Workshop begins with an introduction to the art and demonstration of the effects to be done by the students.
Participants then work in pairs trying the different effects out on each other in turn
A 2 hour workshop usually includes 2 effects such as black eyes and basic wounds. Other options are available by request.
Depending on your requirements you can have a choice of the following make-up effects:
- Black eyes
- Grazes
- Cuts
- Basic wounds
- Bruises
- Facial hair
- Ageing
- Illness
- Burns
- Photographic make-up
- Stage make-up
