Art, Drama, Dance, English – Children’s workshops, staff Inset
I am a widely experienced and enthusiastic KS1 and 2 teacher, author, artist and actor. I offer practical workshops and Inset to those seeking to develop their skills using Art, Drama, Dance and English to creatively address the broader curriculum. I work with teachers, TAs and children, and discuss your specific needs thoroughly so that the workshop you receive meets your exact requirements.
Art – I work with children and staff to the theme of your choice, using your choice of a range of media and techniques, including drawing, painting, clay, textiles, printing, bookmaking and display. In all cases clear, manageable methods, practical for the classroom, will be shown. I also work as an artist-in-residence, producing murals, ceramic and textile pieces – (see photos) Sessions are informal, practical and relaxed, and offer a wealth of stimulating and exciting ideas for all levels of confidence and ability.
Drama – Sessions are designed to be confidence-building and innovative, using practical ideas to explore drama and Mantle of the Expert as learning tools and address cross-curricular topics, improving children’s use of language, problem-solving, teamwork and writing. Workshops can bring a historical period to life, explore a painting or story from within, develop presentation skills and be linked with art, dance or literacy sessions. Staff Inset aims to equip teachers with a range of exciting ideas manageable by specialists and non-specialists alike.
Dance – Children are introduced to dance as a language, and helped to explore ways of telling a story, expressing feelings, and responding to music. Inset sessions provide practical ideas, planning, resources, guidance on choosing music, and innovative methods of warming up and cooling down. All sessions are at your own level and within your own comfort zone! A wide variety of starting points are used for inspiration. Sessions can focus on dance purely for pleasure and exploration through to devising a whole school performance.
English – Both children’s sessions and staff training incorporate a wide range of alternative and imaginative approaches to speaking, listening, reading and writing. Children explore and build with words in new ways and learn to use them creatively to address a variety of writing genres. My aim is to foster a fascination for words, leave children stimulated and keen to write further, and teachers with an exciting range of ideas which they feel confident and enthusiastic about – and desperate to try out!
