FabDrumming workshops
Drumming has many benefits, it encourages creativity, self expression and rhythmic coordination. It also improves manual and psychomotor skills. The players do not require prior knowledge of drumming or special musical skills. Everyone is given their own instrument and within minutes the group becomes an orchestra. Making music together promotes a feeling of community and team spirit. And above all, it’s great fun!
Drumming and dancing workshops for children
Every child gets his or her own instrument to play. The workshop starts with a warm-up of fun-based ‘ice-breaking’ rhythm games. After instructions on how to get the best sounds out of the instruments I move on to the next stage where the pupils have ample opportunity to express themselves. My workshops for children are musical journeys. The little ones discover different sounds and learn basic music skills. As they get older I go a step further, such as playing together and listening to each other. I teach them different rhythms and how to keep a steady beat. By doing a Drum circle they can improvise their own music. It is also possible to add body percussion, gumboot dancing, singing and dancing to the workshop. The workshop can lead to a performance at the end of the day were they show what they have learned and created.
Workshops for teachers
These sessions are designed to explore musical possibilities that teachers can then develop in a variety of learning situations in their curriculum. As well as exploring new musical ideas for the class, teacher training workshops are a great way of bringing staff together. Group drumming taps into core energies and stimulates participation. It breaks down barriers, reduces stress, develops group cohesiveness and builds team spirit.
FabDrumming offers the following workshops:
- Drummunication, on djembes and other percussion instruments
- Recycled Junk Percussion: Drums & Barrels (a combination of drummunication & junk percussion)
- Body Percussion
- South African Gum Boot Dancing
- African Dancing
- Dancing around the World (learn how to dance traditional dances from different parts of the world.)
