About:

Working with small groups, either at our studio or at school, we provide a brief introduction to letterpress and our equipment before launching into an inky activity!

We can provide a project such as printing bookmarks or creating a 'Type Face' from a selection of wooden type or the session can be part of a school project (eg looking at William Morris or the Communication Revolution).

The children / students will learn some print terms and phrases whilst producing a print as an individual or as part of a group effort. This can be a short piece of text or use letter forms to create a poster for instance and they will find themselves considering the English language, design and typography through forms and structure.

Science, engineering and mathematics can also be touched upon as we talk about the construction of the press and the type we use!

"During Q&A sessions with students, I have always been fascinated by the questions I am asked, which range from the composition of alloys used in the type, to the manufacturing of type to the origins of words and phrases used."
